Albert Van Den Berg

Albert Van Den Berg

Albert van den Berg made his Test debut in 1999 against Italy and played in two matches in the 1999 Tri Nations against New Zealand and Australia.

He appeared in the 1999 Rugby World Cup, playing in five matches and scoring a brace of tries in the pool match against Uruguay.

In 2000, after moving to the Sharks, he played in the Tri Nations and made appearances against Argentina, Ireland, Wales, and England. After being absent from the international arena for three years, van den Berg was recalled to the South African squad for the 2004 Tri Nations match against New Zealand, replacing the injured Victor Matfield.

Named in three consecutive Tri Nations' squads between 2005 and 2007, he was then selected for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France where he made two appearances.

A veteran of over 51 Test matches for his country, the lanky athletic lock is both an outstanding lineout jumper as well as a highly mobile player who has a turn of speed that has come in very useful for his teams late in the game when opportunities open up.
