HELP FOR HEROES - Walk from Wembley Stadium to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

In aid of Help for Heroes, 3 Royal Navy sailors will be walking from Wembley to Cardiff carrying the Welsh Football Association match ball for the Wales v England football fixture on the 26th March, they will be walking between 30-35 miles per day stopping in Henley on Thames, Newbury, Swindon, Cheltenham, Monmouth before arriving in Cardiff on the 24th March.

They will be presenting the match ball that will have carried the 168 miles to the match officials prior to kick off in front of a sell-out Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. 

The team of walkers is made up of; Petty Officers Andy “Gibbo” Gibbs, Robert “Buster” Brown and Warrant Officer Dave “DC” Chandler.

PO (EW) Andy “GIBBO” Gibbs (left of Gary Speed) and WO2 Dave “DC” Chandler (right of Gary Speed) attended the presentation at the Vale Hotel in Cardiff with Tyler Christopher and Katie Cherrett from H4H. Unfortunately PO AWT “Buster” Brown could not attend as he is training hard for the forthcoming world indoor rowing championships in Boston. To raise money during the walk they will be selling Help for Heroes wristbands in the towns and Cities they stop over in as they make there way South West. The route to the Millenium Stadium will be broken down into daily parts, and the guys will be covering around 34 miles each day.

The journey will involve:

Wembley to Henley on Thames - 18th March

Henley on Thames to Newbury - 19th March

Newbury to Swindon - 20th March

Swindon to Cheltenham - 21st March

Cheltenham to Monmouth - 23rd March

Monmouth to Cardiff - 24th March

The team has been working very hard to ensure they raise as much money as possible and this has been seen with the following promotional activities: 

Tuesday 1st March - Gibbo and “The Ball” were at the Senior Rates mess at Northwood raffling off a Help for Heroes rugby shirt during the 5 O’clock club.

Friday 4th March - Buster and Gibbo were interviewed on the military TV and radio channel BFBS; this is a live interview which is viewed in all military establishments. It can also be viewed on-line at WWW.BFBS.COM

Saturday 5th March the lads and “The Ball” made their way to Upton Park to see the mighty Hammers take on Stoke City in the Premier League.

Wetherspoons have produced a specialist Ale for the team and have called it " REAL HEROES ALE " This will be availeble in around 80 Wetherspoons pubs in and around the Route, with 50p from each pint being donated, if you do happen to visit a Wetherspoons have a drink on the lads, your donation will be very much appreciated.

Mitre has contributed towards the event donating a signed pair of Mark Schwarzer's gloves for the raffle, adding the facebook page (www.facebook.com/WalktoCardiff) to our page favourites and the story being uploaded onto the Mitre website.
