Mitre's Italian partner Land-Mark SRL, is supporting the Italian Charity Organisation IPSIA as they launch the project "Terre e Libertá" (Lands and Freedom).
The aim of the project is to support underprivileged children by bringing Rugby to the remote villages of rural Kenya.
Recently, Regina, a charity worker from Rome, traveled to the town of Meru, nicknamed the "Jam Factory" because herbal teas are produced there for the European markets, with a sack full of Mitre balls and kit.
As you can imagine explaining the basics of Rugby in a foreign language was very challenging, with high tackles and mayhem ensuing on the makeshift rugby ground made from two twigs as posts. There were no lines marked out, and no flags, just lots of fun and laughter.
The days play continued until dusk, only being called off when it was too dark, but recommenced the following morning with the funny shaped Mitre ball they call a Rugby Ball.
Mitre's European Sales Director Bill Leach said "The belief in the power of sport is central to the Mitre spirit and so it is important to support charities that unite sports lovers everywhere. We are very proud to be a part of an extremely good cause, bringing happiness into people's lives through the simple donation of a ball"
