The Legend Returns as Mitre Announced Continued WPL Partnership

The Welsh Premier League is pleased to announce that Mitre will continue to be the Official Match Ball provider to the WPL after signing a new three-year partnership. The deal will see clubs play with an exciting new football with the return of Mitre’s most iconic trademark – the Delta. Redesigned, reinvented and rejuvenated, the Delta is back as Mitre’s new official match ball for the WPL, EFL and SPFL, engineered for optimal control, accuracy and power.

Instantly recognisable thanks to its heritage, the Delta holds a unique place at the heart of British football and over the years has been treasured by players and fans alike. Last seen on British football pitches in 2001, its return means that a new generation of players can now have their first football experiences with a brand new ball with the same legendary trademark.

Nathan Spencer, Brand Activation Exec at Mitre Sports International, said of the partnership: ‘’We’re delighted to announce our continued partnership with the Welsh Premier League, which will see us supply clubs with an unrivalled football whilst continuing to support clubs at all levels. With this renewal, we look forward to further strengthening our brand and the Welsh Premier League.’’

Gwyn Derfel, WPL Secretary commented: ‘’The positive feedback from the Welsh Premier League member clubs, regarding the quality of the Mitre footballs, made the decision to extend our partnership for a further three years a very simple one. The design and quality of the Mitre Delta is undoubtedly impressive.’’

The Delta football which will be used through the WPL next season, and the most advanced football Mitre have ever engineered, features brand new technology including a textured surface for instinctive aerodynamic control. The added embossed grooves provide up to 400% more stability at speeds of 30 – 45 mph as well as greater accuracy vs a flat panel construction of the same ball¹.

A distinctive 14 panel design with innovative Hyperseam™ technology ensures optimum energy dissipation and a super accurate flight. Combining the benefits of bonded and stitched seams guarantees superb speed and pin-point accuracy with a consistent feel, almost zero water uptake² and superior durability. A laminated bladder combined with a rubber sheet constructed in between two layers of foam backing give explosive power coupled with improved control.

Mark Upshall, Head of Category at Mitre Sports International, says; “We’re really proud of the Delta trademark and its iconic heritage so can’t wait to bring it back. Our new Delta ball has been updated with brand new technology to make it our most innovative football yet. We hope its return will inspire new moments of football brilliance among future generations – the same way it has with players in the past”.
